Wellservicer

The British flag multi-purpose vessel Welllservicer put in to Halifax for a short visit today. Operated for Technip Canada Ltd, it has been working on the White Rose field off Newfoundland. It will now move to the Venture Field off Nova Scotia's Sable Island where it will carry out pipeline repair work. The work will include removal of an old spool, installation of a new spool, replacing protection mattresses and doing scour remediation. The work is expected to take until the end of the year.

The 111 meter long ship is fitted with a host of equipment to support diving and ROV activity. Among the most obvious pieces of kit is the double crane on a single pedestal. Working together the cranes can lift 130 tonnes. The ship is fitted with three thrusters forward, and three thrusters aft, which allow the ship to keep station within the very high tolerances of  DP 2 (Dynamic Positioning). Its six main engines develop 12,600 kW and produce a bollard pull of 110 tonnes.

With its large accommodation block and helicopter platform it is largely self-sustaining when at work, and remains at sea for periods of time up to two months without refueling.
